Ok ..I think that it has been about 6 or 7 months since the premier of the new IMUS morning show on WABC radio and RFD-TV.
As a longtime listener of this show in different forums over the years, I gotta say that this program is just not funny ! It can be very boring at times, and that is when I turn the dial to WFAN to see what Boomer and Cartoon are yapping about. Both of these guys are Met fans....NY sports fans..., so at least I can relate to some of what is going on. As far as IMUS....he is gettin old and cranky and is just not funny. Karith Foster has added nothing to this show, the same can be said for Tony Powell. Both of these performers may be great stand up comics doing well on the club circuit, but they are just not funny at all on this morning show. Charles MCcord is a smart dude who reads the news when asked. Rob Bartlett is very funny..i have seen him live and his energy comes through on the IMUS program. Warner Wolf is good, a very dry sense of humor and a good sports guy that sums up all the highlights in the minute or two that he has each hour. Other than that...the show is pretty flat. Since his long awaited comeback to the radio...the new format has really lost the edge that was a trademark in the morning drive time. We barely hear from Bernie...never see him anymore. Same with Lou..he adds very little to the program, except his excellent music selection behind the scenes. All of the cutting edge guests are gone...Bo Dietel is a prime example. He used to be a regular guest, and would offend every ethnic group in the city in the span of about 90 seconds. BUT..he was funny ! Best time to listen to this show is from 9 till 10 AM when they lose the TV network and open up a bit more on the radio. I-Mans brother Fred rarely makes an appearance anymore...too bad. I don't want to see or hear anymore about Deidre Imus or Wyatt Imus. Anyone else out there have an opinion on this show ?? |

I agree with basically everything you said. I used to listen to him religiously and now I pretty much do the same thing you do. I tune in when I can, and most of the time I tune in, they are either in commercial, or doing weather/traffic with some nameless, forgettable broadcaster. Either that or Karith and Tony are doing some totally lame schtick that you can tell Imus and crew are forcing laughs at.
Bartlett is hilarious when he is on. Unfortunately I am unable to sit around and listen to the stuff previously mentioned until he comes on and I tune back to Carton and Boomer for the reasons you state. It's a shame really. I'd rather listen to Imus, but I just can't.

Agree with both of you. The Imus show has completely lost its edge (no moxie?). And Deidre is annoying like nails on a blackboard. Director of the Pediatric Oncology Wing at Hackensack Medical Center???? Give me a break. Given the choice of Mike and Mike, Boomer and Carton, or Imus, I generally listen to music during the AM drive now, mostly WFUV, The Peak, or my iPod.
Big Rob Bartlett fan here. I saw his stand up last year and it was funny. His appearances on Imus when he was on MSNBC were must-see TV, especially Dr. Phil and Blind White Mississippi Blues Man Pigs Feet Dupree. How did he keep a straight face during those routines? |

I have a slightly different perspective. I began listening to Imus around the 04 elections. I liked the insight and the general sense of anarchy that surrounded the show.
I, however, never really found it funny. Bill Clinton? Patton? Teddy Kennedy??!!! And Bernie's rants?! Not the reason I tuned in. The new show is much more mature. A guest roster that includes Jim Nantz , Jim Webb, and Jesse Jackson is fine with me. I do agree that the show has lost some energy -- and edge. Also, like MMD there are too many ads -- interviews too short!!-- but I'm going to keep listening. Esp when the alternative is Egosian and Sid-Light. |

I'm starting to get down on those two (I know you dislike them SportsFan). Too much guy talk stuff. I do like when they talk sports, and that's why I keep tuning back. If they are talking sports then I'm there, but otherwise it's either back to Imus if he's not in a commercial or playing a country song.
Heck, most of the time lately I get frustrated with both shows and I am just heads down working without the radio on. (I work from home, so no commute or anything). Good for the economy I guess. ![]()

Does anyone actually listen to IMUS anymore? His act tends to get tired real quick?
